Therefore, in this Dashlane VPN review, it’s clear as day that privacy is just an afterthought for both companies. Paid plans offer “less” logging but still, it’s really not a zero-log VPN service.

Plus, Hotspot Shield also sells your private information to third parties to earn money when providing its free plan. This means you won’t enjoy a high level of privacy either way. In short, Hotspot Shield is notorious for storing logs, which also translates to its free, ad-supported version. It’s also based in the US and it’s one of our least favorite providers. Hotspot Shield is a company known for privacy issues. Interestingly, the company stores your IP address and geolocation data, which brings us to the actual Dashlane VPN, or better said, Hotspot Shield. Biometric, commercial, and other similar information isn’t stored, however. These include your email address, mailing address, payment info, and stuff like that. Since this is a password manager primarily, it’ll store specific information, such as identifiers. If we take a look at the privacy policy, we’ll see that it stores quite a lot of information. It is a US-based company, so it’s subject to stern data-retention laws in the country. When it comes to privacy, in this Dashlane VPN review, we can’t say we’re impressed. Just to remind you, make sure you check out our review about that provider, which is basically the Dashlane VPN review for 2023 you want. As said, you’ll now be using Hotspot Shield, and since we already have a review of that provider, it’s pointless talking about everything again.

You can use the same email or a different one, actually, which is quite convenient. Once you click on the VPN option, simply activate the Hotspot Shield account with the email you used in your Dashlane VPN account. On the left, you’ll see plenty of options, one of which is the VPN (or Virtual Private Network). However, we recommend clicking on “Open the App” where Dashlane will open in the new tab. From here, you can access the app in the form of an extension where you can add passwords and take advantage of certain features. Basically, when you subscribe, you create an account and by following the steps, you also add something called Master Password. Instead, the provider comes in the form of an extension that focuses primarily on password management. You don’t get an app or anything, which is quite a shame. We’ll talk more about its prices later, but once you subscribe, you’ll need to add Dashlane to your browser as an extension. The first thing is to go to its website and get a subscription.
